In Baan Chang Thai Ajarn Lek teaches a martial art that is very different from classical Muay Thai. Muay Thai Chaiya is Thai boxing in its original traditional form. It goes beyond the modern techniques, is not comitted to current competition rules and also covers ground fighting.
Men and women, boys and girls are training together here. In a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere almost forgotten techniques are practiced that seem very unusual for martial experienced. Here you mostly meet Thai students, but You will found almost always someone who speaks English.
One does not necessarily have to be martial arts experience to participate. Prerequisites are curiosity, humility and respect. And also patience. So this training pays off especially for people who spend several weeks or months in Bangkok.
For this you will be rewarded with great insight: The homage to the old masters. The wonderful group dynamics to train with Thais together in their national sport. And the statements of Ajarn (“teacher”) Lek, who explaines how to defend before one can attack. And how the idea of “timing, distance, balance” in Muay Chaiya is.
